Oct. 1st, Wildcat, Lonetree, Basswood Canyons

Today's Walker's Club left with 39 walker's and 1 dog (Cocoa).  We headed out on the Bluff trail toward Wildcat Canyon via Pontiac Canyon.  Very breezy day but comfortable.

Asters are everywhere

Brown marker means bluff trail with a gold circle meaning you are walking away from the Lodge and visitor center.

Geology Joe always takes photos of guests on his weekend hikes.  Today was his turn.

Some of the steps are a bit much

Great view of the Illinois River from Sandstone Point

Heres Burl.....

Coming down the steps by Lonetree Canyon

And still coming down.....

Lovely clouds.  View of the Illinois River from the River trail near Wildcat Canyon

All of us in Wildcat Canyon

View from Beehive Overlook.  Yes it is always overgrown without a view.

Thank you Tom from picking up trash.
It was great to go hiking today.  Can't wait to see when the colors change.

I will leave you with this: The same boiling water that softens potatoes, hardens eggs.  It's all about what your made of NOT your circumstances.

  1. hi, i had a few questions about the canyons and was hoping you could help out. are you able to go inside of: basswood, pontiac, lone tree, sac, kickapoo, hennepin or hidden?
we've been hiking there and haven't seen any access points for these. (we weren't sure if hidden is the same as owl cause we didn't see hidden)

    thank you

  2. No these do not have access into them from the bottom. You are only able to see them from the top. Owl Canyon is the same.
